Shanthamani Muddaiah

These works have emerged from deep introspection, reiterating the need to continue artmaking. During the lockdown, it provided an anchor to existence to alleviate the feeling of suspension. The drawings are based on her study of the earth being blasted in an open cast mining, where debris is launched into space with the force of the explosions. The trajectory of the debris exists at a point of suspension, for a fraction of a second, in which the acceleration caused by the mining explosions is the same as that of gravity. This point of suspension, an eye of the storm, runs parallel to our dialogue with the earth as human actors.
